Fans of Saturday Night Live will be tickled pink to see two of the show’s top flight comediennes in action once again as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler team up in the shockingly good Baby Mama, now on DVD.  Stepping confidently over the cinematic corpses of a dozen flops written to showcase other SNL stars, Fey and Poehler deliver sharp performances and non-stop laughs, and I had more fun than I could ever have imagined.  Declared hopelessly infertile by her physicians, Fey’s character engages a surrogate mother but the culture clash between Fey’s tightly-wound corporate vice president and Poehler’s blue collar baby maker keeps the arrangement in constant jeopardy.  A familiar “Felix and Oscar” scenario is in play but it is well-fueled by an impressive supporting cast, including the funniest performance by Steve Martin in years. A treat for the ladies that won’t scare men away, Baby Mama delivers in a big way.
